Reverse DNS takes the IP address and returns the domain name as opposed to the normal way of the domain name returning to the Ip address. This is a technique that\u2019s used to counter spammers who send spams with non-existent domains. The reverse DNS check the path back to the sender, if it\u2019s not a legit domain, then the email is discarded or flagged as spam.<\/p>\n

Forward DNS lookups or (normal) use A records to determine a domain name’s IP address, while reverse DNS lookups use PTR records to determine an IP address’ associated domain name.<\/p>\n
